Course Project Milestone 1: Outline
There exist many historical events from 1865 until the present day, but one topic has always captivated my attention and focus. The topic I selected is Robert s Oppenheimer view of nuclear weapons before, during, and after the bombing of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. Even though Robert Oppenheimer was the head physicist on the development of the atomic bomb, his point of view toward nuclear weapons changed drastically after the bombing of Hiroshima. Many historians describe that he got a change of heart and even opposed developing more nuclear weapons and even deadlier weapons like the Hydrogen Bomb. This change of emotions caused Oppenheimer to be blacklisted and to lose his leading positions. This essay would describe significant events and Robert Oppenheimers position during these circumstances.

Annotated Bibliography
Reed, B. C. (2015). Atomic bomb: The story of the Manhattan project: How nuclear physics became a global geopolitical game-changer [PDF]. Morgan et Claypool.
The book by Bruce Cameron Reed describes the underlying scientific discoveries that made nuclear weapons possible, how the project was organized, the enormous challenges faced, and how to obtain fissile uranium, plutonium, and design viable bombs. The dramatic Trinity test was made in the desert from southern New York. In July 1945 and the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Mexico. A description of the origins, organization, and work of the Manhattan Engineer District from 1939 to 1945. The Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings, how to target cities came to be selected, political considerations surrounding the use of the bombs, the bombing missions themselves, the effects of the bombs, and the role of the bombings in the Japanese decision to surrender. This source explains in detail how the Manhattan project was.
Kelly, C. C. (2008). Oppenheimer and the Manhattan PROJECT: Insights into J. Robert Oppenheimer, father of the atomic bomb [PDF]. World Scientific Publ.
This book is written by Cynthia C. Kelly, where she talks about Oppenheimer s life. Work became central to 20th-century history as he spearheaded the atomic bomb development that ended World War II. This book provides a spectrum of interpretations of Oppenheimer s life and his scientific achievements. It approaches the extraordinary scientist and teacher from many perspectives, chronicling the years from his boyhood through his role as director of the Los Alamos National Laboratory and afterward. The book also discusses Oppenheimer s connection to New Mexico, which hosted two of the Manhattan Project s most important sites. It addresses his lasting impact on contemporary science, international politics, and the postwar age. This source of information is excellent for my project topic because it seems credible and reliable.
V. (2015, November 01). J. Robert Oppenheimer in Hiroshima: The decision to drop the bomb (1965). Retrieved from
I have chosen the following video because it transmits a recorded edition of the scientist Robert Oppenheimer. You can appreciate his political position and emotional state after the rush to Japan. Robert Oppenheimer also goes into detail about critical moments during the creation of the nuclear bomb. The people present had different reactions such as sadness, joy, and even people who did not show emotions before what was happening. The scientist compared his emotional state in front of the success of the nuclear bomb with a phrase of the Indian religion Now I became death, the destroyers of worlds. . I liked the video because it was interesting to see unpublished images of what happened before and after the atomic bomb was thrown in Japan. It also caused me a shock to see how Oppenheimer had so much sadness in his eyes while he narrated the events.
Burton, K. D. (2020, July 15). Destroyer of Worlds : The making of an Atomic Bomb: The National WWII Museum: New Orleans. Retrieved from
The contributor of this article is Kristen D. Burton, which she describes that the Trinity test was successful and that it exceeded the expectations of the scientists who were in the Manhattan project. Truman used the results as a lever to demand the unconditional surrender of Japan, which Japanese officials chose to ignore. The discovery and harnessing of atomic energy not only served to bring World War II to a swift and fiery end, but it also placed the United States in a position of world power that no other nation had after the end of the war. This article was easy to read, and the points the author made were presented in an objective manner.
