The cause of atherosclerosis may be high blood pressure, high triglycerides, smoking, obesity and diabetes. Risk factors also include: diabetes, obesity, smoking, a family history of early heart disease, lack of exercise, and an unhealthy diet. To prevent and avoid the risk of developing atherosclerosis, people should maintain a healthy lifestyle, avoid smoking, exercise, and maintain a healthy weight.
