Telling a persons story

Find someone you know (or have known) who you would like to write about or tell his or her story. This could be a relative, a friend, a fellow worker, a pastor, a coach, or someone you have met at school. Of course you will need to include some biographical data such as age, place of birth, home town, occupation and so forth. But, be sure to get beyond this basic data to explain what the person is like.
This could include, but is not limited to, the persons appearance, way of dressing, mannerisms, interests and any other details that will give readers a sense of what the person is like. Sometimes favorite songs or movies tell us much about a person. What stories do you know that would help readers understand the person? See if you can think of incidents that show how the person behaves under pressure, or incidents that display his or her kindness or sense of humor. What do others say about him or her?
Consider talking to and interviewing the person; quotations can be an excellent way to reveal someones personality and values. If the interview wont work, try to remember the sorts of things this person would say. If you want, you can ask others what they think of this person and use those quotations.
Though this essay does not require a traditional thesis statement, it should work to give a unified impression of the person you are writing about. How has this person affected you? Or what insights on life have this person given you?
Another important considerationhow can you make this person matter to your audience? What will a general audience find interesting or engaging about this person?
Criteria for scoring this essay:
1 Originality (insight, fresh use of language)
2 Organization
3 Paragraph development
4 Sentence structure (no fragments or splices, appropriate use of sentence combining and parallel structure)
5 Diction (being concise, choosing the right word)
6 Use of detail (specificitynames of people, places, things. Description. Examples.)
7 Use of Standard English (spelling, punctuation, grammar, usage)
